Representative Mike Pence, R-Ind., chairman of the House Republican Conference said that it's a piece of an "all of the above" strategy that proposes energy independence, an increased number of jobs and cleaner environments without commanding national energy taxes. Contrasting their bill to that of the Democratic ACES, Republicans believe the bill is is at the center of the creation.
Democrats' energy tax will wage war on America's families, businesses and family owned farms and it shall be opposed, said Pence, saying that the utilities will have to raise their prices to be able to deal with new limits. The proposal will continue to hurt our economy during the recession.
Joe Barton, Republican Representative from Texas was a bit more blunt when he said that "they like to call it ACES, but I call it C.R.A.P," and then added "continue ruining America's prosperity."
House Republicans say that a needed CO2 reduction is unnecessary, not realistic and way too costly, that the restraints on manufacturers may force them overseas and limited pollution restraints.
John Boehner, Republican from Ohio and House Minority Leader, berated the proposal as "lunacy."
Boehner said that they think governments can or should control the amount of carbon dioxide that is released and impacts the atmosphere. When all is said and done, the environment will benefit more from this "all of the above" approach, than it will with any level of their efforts for cap and trade.
Barton said that any impact due to the proposal would be extremely detrimental for industries but inconsequential to the environment.
Barton asked if it was worth having job losses in the millions and more than a trillion dollars lost compared to, forty years average world temperatures, are two degrees lower than it otherwise would be? He said that he thought the response to that issue was no.
